Just post ur oppinions of which one u prefer
Here are some of mine:
U can reach 24th fret easier on BOP , go look at the pics on music farm and usually V body is hard to reach high frets
Ur turn:

Bird of Prey FTW...... its just so damn sexy with the gold hardware and green flamed top.

Bird of Prey...it it would be lefty ;-)

I'll join the posters above.

I'd prefer a BoP over a Venom, one of the reasons being I already have a V, and the BoP looks more comfy to play while seated.

really i find it easier, and its easyer to transfer from sitting sto standing to cuz your in the same position as the guitars going diagonally insted of sideways

i also find it easier to grab pinch harmonics and get my fingering(lol) better

I like them both equally. I did however buy the Thoracic Venom first so I guess you can put me down for the Venom. Now if the thing would just get here..................

If ur a guy who needs to use the high frets alot the BOP is ur axe man, i played on countless V body and its harder to reach the 24th fret compared to Strat body , ML body etc...
I guess its because since the V doesnt have that much body, if they keep cutting away the neck probably just fall off

Essentially a BOP is a venom with an extra wing so they are pretty much the same guitar. Same fret access etc same name thickness. The only difference is the wing really so your just looking at a cosmetic difference as well as a bit more weight. Guitar might sustain a tiny little bit more but that can be easily compensated for. I would probably go with the venom as I like the V's but I don't think a BOP would be too different if I closed my eyes and played them back to back. Just two different looks really.

Is it just me or that I think that DBZ should put inlays on the Dark sides guitars??
I mean yea I can play ok with no inlay but it just looks so plain, Man Dean should come up with a wicked inlay for Venom and Bird (Not talking about the 12th fret )

the no fret inlays makes the guitars look more mysterious. ninja.gif

Inlays typically look better on more traditional guitars in my option. Les pauls etc. Metal guitars have to have that sleek look to the fretboard. thumbsup.gif

I'm glad these only have one inlay. It just looks so mean, the best way I can put it. Inlays to me really only look cool if it's the jackson sharkfins. If I see dots I run...I don't know why.

but anyways, I ordered my black Bird of Prey today. I can't wait to go around poking people in the face!

Same with me....

I one day seriously plan to get me a USA Trans Black Venom built (with all black hardware & matching Trans Black head stock). I fear the Stealth Style head stock will not be available by then. I read something about this new W-style head stock taking over which scares me a bit though I can only hope the ST style Head will always be available as a custom feature at no extra cost.

Can any one clear this up for me? I'm confused over this whole W-style head stock taking over thing I read about..

Stealth Style head stock = sexy thumbsup.gif

W-style head stock = not really my fortay.. confused.gif

OK, here you go, the unofficial official pointy guitar headstock FAQ:

In the beginning all pointy guitars (Cavallo, Venom and Bird of Prey) had the V headstock. USA guitars got the floating gold logo, import guitars got a non-floating pewter logo.

Somewhere along the development lines, Dean Z. decided to change the headstock to the newer W design. I have heard 2 reasons for this: 1) Dean Z. didn't want the headstocks looking too much like his old companies design so he made the change. 2) DBZ got some heat from Dean Guitars about the headstocks looking too much like Dean's.

From production photo's we have seen, there appears to be several USA pointies already made with the V headstock(2 in the hands of Virus from Dope and 1 or 2 in the hands of Corey from Trivium), 2 prototype imports and a batch of Cavallos. All the other production photos we have seen, which appear to be imports, show guitars being built with the W headstock. Carlinos said they would post photos of their first batch of Venoms and BOP's on Monday so I'm curious to see which headstock they have.

I asked Dean Z. about the headstock design here:

http://www.dbzguitars.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=604

and he said:

"Plans are - USA; VENOM, BOP and CAVALLO heads will be changing to the new shape shortly.
However, the logos will float. The Majestic Head (one on the Bolero) will remain the same."

Here's the headstock of the prototype import Venom Thoracic from NAMM that I just received:

Here's another cool pic I just took. 1981 USA Dean vs. 2009 DBZ

I love the Bird Of Prey hands down. It's the hottest guitar I've ever seen in my entire life. The craftmanship's amazing, the sound is perfect. It's everything I've been looking for and more.

Question: would the original Stealth Style head stock be available in the Custom Shop if wanted?

I'll admit, I'm a very greedy person. Lets do EVERYONE a favor and keep these guitars a secret for as long as possible. I don't want this to turn into a new version of the Dean guitar wagon...

Hahahaha! I am hearing you tongue.gif Though I have doubts that will happen, there won't be any endorsements so you won't get the 13 year old with a rich daddy trying to be like Mustaine or dime and the associated homosexuality. People will play it because they want to, so I think that will bring a different sort of crowd to the banner..

Agreed, not allowing endorsements is what will keep this company different. I doubt it will need them anyways as Dean Z's reputation for quality is selling guitars like crazy it appears thumbsup.gif

My first guitar was an 198?'s model Dean and if it wasn't for that guitar then I would more than likely not be playing right now. That guitar has been throught the wringer and it is still an a** kicker so there it is no big mystery why I chose to buy real Dean Z guitars, the man knows how to build a guitar.

My vote is for the Venom BTW mine kicks some major a**, I love it.

Also on another note the W headstock was a little iffy to me in the beginning but now that I've seen it in person I like it alot. I would look kinda plain to me if it jut had the dual pointed V headstock, but maybe that's just me.
Askrogth
Yeah agreed on Deans reputation.. Only person I would ever buy a guitar from a new company without any real idea what it will be like is from Dean Z which I already have done so tongue.gif Will be good to have all my expectations fulfilled though!

I agree, I've never bought a guitar without trying it before so this will be a first.

And a quick question, do all import BOP come with ebony fret board?

All import BOP's come with ebonized(died rosewood) fretboards.
