Can any one clear this up for me? I'm confused over this whole W-style head stock taking over thing I read about..
OK, here you go, the unofficial official pointy guitar headstock FAQ:
In the beginning all pointy guitars (Cavallo, Venom and Bird of Prey) had the V headstock. USA guitars got the floating gold logo, import guitars got a non-floating pewter logo.
Somewhere along the development lines, Dean Z. decided to change the headstock to the newer W design. I have heard 2 reasons for this: 1) Dean Z. didn't want the headstocks looking too much like his old companies design so he made the change. 2) DBZ got some heat from Dean Guitars about the headstocks looking too much like Dean's.
From production photo's we have seen, there appears to be several USA pointies already made with the V headstock(2 in the hands of Virus from Dope and 1 or 2 in the hands of Corey from Trivium), 2 prototype imports and a batch of Cavallos. All the other production photos we have seen, which appear to be imports, show guitars being built with the W headstock. Carlinos said they would post photos of their first batch of Venoms and BOP's on Monday so I'm curious to see which headstock they have.
I asked Dean Z. about the headstock design here:
http://www.dbzguitars.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=604and he said:
"Plans are - USA; VENOM, BOP and CAVALLO heads will be changing to the new shape shortly.
However, the logos will float. The Majestic Head (one on the Bolero) will remain the same."
Here's the headstock of the prototype import Venom Thoracic from NAMM that I just received:

Here's another cool pic I just took. 1981 USA Dean vs. 2009 DBZ
