I love the new Ws, but no one has ever asked the question of why this change occurred.
Was it a stability issue or design flaw?
Was it a patent issue?
Was it a manufacturing issues (easier to make)?
Was there any other particular reason?

I think the rumour was that dean guitars was complaining that the V headstock looked too much like the dean one but who knows how true that is.

usually if it has anything to do with legal crap dean wont coment to protect his a$$, which i can understand, but id have to imagine either 1. he personally thought it looked too much like dean co. headstocks and wanted to change it up or 2. dean co. had a bitch fit about it, either way i ike the new direction, much like the origional dean headstocks he designed they were origional and set a new standard, and i believe he is going in the same direction now, but as ive said before he now has the knowlege to help this company prosper like dean co. never had, and at this rate never will

It would make sense if he changed every headstock to the W but it's only the darkside models, right?
I think that kind of throws the legal issue out the window, but not necessarily. Could it be to distinguish the USA from the import models? I'm sure you can order a USA venom with a V stock.

My guess is cost and time - I'm sure the floating headstock design on the USA's costs more money to make and more time, so they figured put those on the more expensive guitars, and put the solid headstock on the imports. Could have something to do with wood strength as well. Perhaps a mahagony headstock is stronger than a maple? Maybe the strings put a lot of stress on that V in the floating headstock, so it needs to be made of harder wood? I really love the look of those floating headstocks.

hey first post here but , at the local store the guy told me it was a legal issue. I don't really know but if it is to me that's just one more reason not to buy a dean.
I like the DBZs a lot better anyway.

Man, why is this play an armadillo bash fest.
It's a new day, forget about the past. As for the guy at your store, nobody knows, it's just speculation.
